FAA Requirements

Why should you join a drug abatement - AMPP Consortium?

  • Simply sending employees somewhere for a drug test does not satisfy the FAA requirements and is a waste of time and money--it just doesn't count.  To legally test an individual, an approved plan under which the testing is done must be in place.
  • "Piggy-Backing" one operator onto another operator's plan is not allowed.
  • There are no "grace periods" nor exceptions for single-pilot operators or single person maintenance shops.
  • Each operator, defined as a FAR Part 135 and 121 Certificate Holder or an operator who does sightseeing flights, is required by the FAA to have its own approved drug and alcohol program, or be under a Consortium plan.
  • Each company or individual who works on FAR Part 135, 121 or sightseeing aircraft, or on components that are to be used on those aircraft, must be on an approved drug and alcohol program, or be under a Consortium plan.  This includes avionics, paint, and interior (upholstery, etc.), among other things.

As the holder of an approved program, you are required to have on hand, as part of your program administration, the following:

  • A copy of the approved program.
  • A company policy statement for your approved drug and alcohol program.
  • Acknowledgement forms, training certification forms, previous history certification forms, previous employer records request forms, etc..
  • A Hot Line Poster which includes your testing location and your Employee Assistance Program facility.
  • Your semi-annual Statistical Summary Reports from a testing lab (if a minimum number of tests are done).
  • Training materials to satisfy requirements for two hours of supervisor training and one hour of employee training on the drug and alcohol programs.

Professional Air Charter Services Drug Abatement / AMPP Consortium furnishes all these materials as part of its membership package.
